This month, In The Listening Room, Dallas and Zach take guests inside the world of ECM Records — the influential label that expanded the possibilities of jazz, drawing inspiration from classical music, Nordic folk, and minimalist composition to create a sound entirely its own.

With the theme “The Most Beautiful Sound Next to Silence”, Dallas and Zach will guide guests through a curated selection of music from the ECM catalogue, exploring the artists, recordings, and ideas that have made it one of the most influential labels in contemporary music.

Expect an evening of deep listening, discovery, and conversation, where every note, pause, and texture has room to breathe.

Dallas

With over three decades behind the decks, Dallas began in rave and bass music before evolving into a deeply considered approach to sound. Today, his selections move through jazz, ambient, electronica, and low-key beats, guided by mood, space, and flow. Known for creating intimate listening environments, Dallas invites audiences to slow down, tune in, and connect — always digging for new records and sharing discoveries with quiet curiosity.

Zach Powell

Owner of Oh! Jean Records, Zach is a lifelong collector with 30 years spent chasing records across underground hip-hop, punk, drum & bass, house, and NZ music. His passion now centres on Japanese jazz, with regular trips to Japan each year to source rare finds and deepen his knowledge. A true digger and cultural custodian, Zach is always ready to talk vinyl, history, and the joy of discovery.
