In the Know: A Community Conversation About Substance Misuse

The DACI "In The Know: A Community Conversation on Substance Misuse" event is free and open to EVERYONE in the community interested in preventing drug and alcohol misuse, abuse, and overdose deaths and improving the lives of our community members.

Lunch is provided. PLEASE REGISTER BY MARCH 3 FOR LUNCH COUNTS.

The event features a keynote by Dr. Shuchin Shukla, who has years of experience supporting families navigating substance use challenges, Dr. Shukla brings a compassionate, practical approach to helping loved ones understand their next steps.

His presentation "What Do I Do Now?" will help family members move from information to action with clear, supportive guidance.

Gail Embt will also speak on letting go, ending power struggles, reconnecting, and setting boundaries. She is a certified CRAFT clinician, SMART Recovery facilitator, and advanced Invitation to Change practitioner.

As a mother who navigated challenges with her two sons, Gail combines personal experience with professional expertise to to equip parents with the skills and resources necessary to help their children and help families transform from feelings of anger and anxiety to calm confidence.


There will be three breakout sessions with a variety of topic choices, including:

• “Hidden in Plain Sight” Teen Bedroom
• Household Products With Abuse Potential
• What’s in Store? Legal Substances in Local Retail Settings
• PTSD/Trauma - Veterans and First Responders
• Building Kids’ Resiliency and Protective Factors Against Alcohol/Tobacco/SUD
• The Intersection of Mental Health and Substance Use

Community agencies will have information tables to share resources during the event.
