Join us for a screening of "In the Heat of the Night," a riveting story in which a black detective from Philadelphia becomes entangled in a murder investigation in the deep south and finds himself facing suspicion, hostility, and deep-seated prejudice. Featuring iconic performances by Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger, the film builds with intensity as unlikely alliances form and long-standing tensions rise to the surface. Bold, thought-provoking, and still profoundly relevant, it remains one of the most important films of its era.Enhancing the evening will be a special guest speaker (TBA), who will introduce the film and lead a post-screening discussion. They will offer insight into the film’s historical context, thematic depth, and lasting influence on American cinema.
Be sure to arrive early and enjoy an optional menu item from Riggatti’s to savor during the post-screening discussion, or to take it home with you after the film.
The Electric Film Series is free to the community, though donations are greatly appreciated. All contributions help support the 2026 Electric Film Series season. When RSVPing for your tickets, you’ll see a “Name Your Own Price” option, so feel free to select $0, or consider donating if you’re able.
As always, thank you for your continued support of classic cinema at the Electric Theater.
