Embark on a heritage walk that immerses you in the tales and monuments of Tipu Sultan, the 18th-century ruler of the Mysore Kingdom, right in the heart of old Bengaluru.
The journey begins with an introduction to Bengaluru’s origins and its medieval state. We’ll then visit the mausoleum of a nobleman connected to Tipu Sultan, where stories of bravery and sacrifice from the 1791 Battle of Bangalore come to life. Moving on, we’ll explore the evolution and defenses of the Bengaluru fort, recounting tales of its prisoners and comparing it to other historic forts across the Mysore region.
Next, we’ll visit the royal durbar in Tipu Sultan’s summer palace, sharing insights into his fascination with the tiger and revisiting his contributions to modern Karnataka as reflected in literature. The walk concludes with a stop at his final armory in Bengaluru.
The host will also introduce Tipu Sultan’s innovative rocket technology, including firsthand British India administration accounts describing rockets that remained functional within the Mysore Kingdom’s territory, even 60 years after his passing!
