This ride will start and finish at Morpeth Train station where we will meet travellers joining us from further afield by train.
This ride is one of a series of rides which are a collaboration between Cycle With Jan and Breeze Women Only bike rides - our aim is to support and encourage more women to join us cycling in the north east! We welcome new and returning riders too!
his series of rides is visiting places where notable women from the region have lived and worked. As well as visiting sites connected to notable women, we'll uncover some of the North East's rich women's history. At each stop, we'll learn about women whose lives and achievements continue to influence us today - whether they identified as feminists or not.
The inspiration for these rides came from the Angels of the North Notable Women of the North East books, volume 1 and 2, written by Joyce Quin and Moira Kilkenny - who have both given their support to these rides.
However please note that this is a more challenging ride as this route is inspired by Constance Lewthart, notable woman aviator - our ride will take her childhood home in Low Angerton west of Morpeth (and not easy to get to!). We will tell you all about Connie on the ride.
The route goes out of Morpeth and heads to Throphill and Hartburn before turning south to head to Bolam Lake for coffee before returning to Morpeth through Meldon and Molesden. This is a more challenging ride with plenty of climbing and an average speed of over 11mph!
The route goes out and back of Morpeth past the golf club but turns onto country roads once we have been under the A1! So the roads will be busier at the beginning and the end.
We will take a refreshment stop at Bolam Lake where snacks can be purchased.
The route uses roads, marked cycle paths, and traffic-free shared paths in order to link places of historical interest relating to our notable women. Unfortunately, we can't avoid a couple of hills, and there is also a busier stretch of road - but the pace will be easygoing and we will ride as a group in order to maintain safety.
Suitable for all bikes.
As we will be stopping to learn about the notable women, plan to be out for a couple of hours.

Riders must have a helmet and should bring a spare inner tube for their own bike, water bottle and a snack and cash for a coffee or two.
Breeze is always encouraging new people to join but this ride is more challenging so please only sign up if you know you can manage the distance and speed comfortably or get in touch if you want to chat about it.
Looking forward to riding with you!
