In Person Workshop: Unexpected Embroidery with Charlotte Farrant (Brighton)
About this Event
Each participant decides on a 3– 5 letter word they would like to embroider. They then choose the corresponding letter cards from the packs to discover which embroidery stitches they can use to create their embroidery.
There will be a selection of shapes/motifs on the table to draw around, which can then be filled with the stitches they have chosen. Each embroidery will look unique when finished and will have a secret word stitched through it.
To note:
- This event is for those aged 16 and over.
- Cancellation and refunds given up to 7 days before the event takes place. No refunds will be given for cancellations under 7 days.
- Capacity for this workshop is 7 people.
Your Tutor
Embracing her passion for innovation, Charlotte Farrant looks to the unexpected to form the basis of her practice. Charlotte is passionate about creating intellectual qualities within her work and moving embroidery away from the perceived idealism it has gained throughout history.
A hand embroidery artist trained at the Royal School of Needlework, she has created ‘The Codification of Stitch’, a classification method for stitch, resulting in a code which can be used within embroidery, creating hidden messages represented through the stitches used within a piece of work.
Through The Codification of Stitch, Charlotte represents a historical or modern-day pioneer through her embroidery designs, believing that the garment and embellishment (embroidery) are intrinsically linked – they rely on each other to enable a true storytelling narrative.
