In-Person Class: Handmade Empanadas (NYC)

Join us for a one of a kind deep dive into traditional Mexican cooking, using key ingredients inspired by the ancient Mayan culture- namely corn!

In this fun and hands-on class you’ll learn to make two popular Mexican street food recipes: salbutes and empanadas. We'll start by making the dough, which is essentially the same recipe for both dishes. It's all in how the dough is formed that brings each dish to life. You are likely familiar with the traditional fried and filled dough pocket that is an empanada. The salbutes are soft, puffed tortillas that are topped with delicious fillings. Consider them an open-faced taco on a fried bed of dough. Yum! We're prepared to serve you a chicken or tofu based filling, which you will participate in cooking yourself. From the sauces to the garnishes, you'll be enjoying the most authentic meal-giving you a little taste of Mexico in NYC.

No experience is required! We provide all the equipment and ingredients, which are easy to find at local markets if you don’t already have them in your home kitchen. Our events are casual and meant to be fun and instructive, not hardcore. This class is designed to be just as fun for the cooking enthusiast who wants to be a part of every step as it is for the first-timer who’s happier observing and assisting (or taste testing).

Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in, wearing your mask. You will be seated with your booking party and socially distanced from other guests. Guests in the same booking party will work together throughout the class by sharing ingredients and equipment. Drinks are NOT included in the ticket price, but will be available for sale at the venue. Outside drinks are not allowed. 21+ only.
