In Our Words: A South Asian poetry open mic

Join us for an afternoon of South Asian poetry and spoken word with Samajh My Gal and Cultureword, communities rooted in voice, storytelling, and connection.

Local poets will share original work exploring cultural heritage and identity, offering honest, personal reflections on life shaped between places and generations. This is a welcoming space to listen, reflect, and be part of a shared creative, South Asian community. Whether you come to perform or simply to experience the work of others, the event is open to all who want to engage with poetry in its many forms!

Alongside the performances, there will be time to connect with others in the room, followed by a special announcement shared exclusively with those present on the night. Free chai and samosas will be available to eat!

About Samajh My Gal

Samajh My Gal is a creative magazine for the dual heritage South Asians of the diaspora built for the ones who grew up navigating two cultures, two languages, and two versions of themselves. We exist because our stories deserve more than a footnote; more than being watered down to make others comfortable. Through photography, art, writing and poetry, we platform and celebrate the South Asian creatives whose voices have long been overlooked, spotlighting the shared experiences, layered identities, and rich cultural heritage that make our community so singular.
