In Motion: Readings, Screening, Performances by Hong Kong Creatives

Event description:
Join us for an afternoon of short film screenings, interdisciplinary performances and readings. With support from Gathering Leaves Hong Kong and Arts Council England's Develop Your Creative Practice grant, this event brings together Hong Kong creatives who have recently moved to the UK and friends. Featured artists and writers include Tim Tim Cheng, Carrie Shen, Deni Cheng, Anson Cheng, Michael Mui, Sakithya and Oliver Robertson.
Artists' Bios:
Tim Tim Cheng is the author of Tapping At Glass (VERVE, 2023), which was one of The Poetry Society’s Books of the Year and shortlisted for The Kavya Prize. Her collection The Tattoo Collector (Nine Arches Press, 2024) is a Poetry Book Society Recommendation. Born in Hong Kong, she is currently based in Glasgow. timtimcheng.com
"Hi, my name is Sakithya and I’m from North-West London. I like to write about Tamil politics and culture, London and the highs and lows of navigating my 20’s. I felt emboldened to write and share more of my work after attending a poetry course with WriterznScribez last November, and I am eternally grateful for this space and community for its resilience, political activism and tenderness amidst all the chaos."
Oliver Robertson is a spoken word artist from Wellpark in Glasgow's East End. He has been a part of BBC Words First Scheme and the Scottish Book Trust New Writers Award. He has performed up and down the country and at festivals such as Eden, Hidden door and Push the Boat Out. His writing is centered around experiences of growing up in the East End of Glasgow.
Carrie Shen is an artist based in Bristol, focusing on cross-media exploration and writing. Her performance and video artworks have been exhibited at Tate Modern and various art spaces throughout the UK. Her writings have been featured in literary magazines such as Fleurs des Lettres, Bit Zi, and Resonate. In 2022, she began directing films; her short documentary “Short Story Long” was selected for the Hong Kong Film Festival UK 2023, and her fictional short film “White White” was featured in the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival 2024.
Deni Cheng is a Hong Kong born and raised independent singer-songwriter. Works include solo album, EP, singles and soundtracks. Composer of the original soundtracks of 2020 IFFR selected documentary short film 'Home, and a Distant Archive' by Dorothy Cheung, and 2024 HKAFF selected short film 'White White' by Carrie Shen.

Anson Cheng is an award-winning filmmaker based in London with extensive experience as a cinematographer and film colourist in the United Kingdom, the United States and Hong Kong. His short film ‘Roundabout’ and the feature film ‘A Road to A Village’, which he coloured, have earned recognitions at top international festivals, including the Sundance Film Festival HK, Toronto and Busan International Film Festivals. Currently working at Company 3 London, a renowned Hollywood colour-grading studio for feature films and TV series, Anson is dedicated to advancing his career and artistry in colour.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Michael Mui is a video director that specialises in documentary making. In 2021, he worked as the camera assistant in the Feature Film Love in Isolation before moving to the UK to continue his journey in filmmaking. In 2022, he worked as a video editor for BBC's newly launched project BBC Maestro. He then started producing documentaries for artists and performing arts companies, including projects such as The Fight Goes On - a documentary for the UK concert of Singer Jason Chan, and Fall and Flow - a documentary for the Europe Tour of Théâtre de la Feuille.
