The Cranston Arts Commission, in collaboration with the Cranston Historical Cemetery Commission, presents In Memory Of: What We Create From What We’ve Lost, a month-long gallery exhibition + events (9/29-10/27) exploring art, memory, grief, and what we create in response to loss.

Join us for the Gallery Opening on Tuesday, October 6 from 5:30–7 PM at Cranston Central Library and experience the work of participating artists.
Part of the In Memory Of series featuring Studio Mortem.
This event is free but ticketed.

Opening Tuesday, September 29, 2026, in the James T. Giles Community Room at the Cranston Central Library (140 Sockanosset Cross Rd, Cranston, RI), the exhibition will feature local artists’ unique interpretations of the art of memory across diverse mediums.

A formal Gallery Opening Reception will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. The reception is free and open to the public, and will feature exhibiting artists, a curated playlist and remarks from both the Arts and Historical Cemeteries Commissions.

• Admission: Free and open to the public during standard library hours.

Related Workshops

All are also invited to participate in a series of related workshops, including a lecture with guest speaker Jay Davani of Studio Mortem, an exploration of Day of the Dead alters and how to make your own, a history of headstones with Cranston Historical Cemeteries Commission Chair John Hill, an epitaph writing workshop, an investivation of ‘zinkies,’ block printing and a cemetery photography tour. 

All workshops are free.
