In June of 1976, documentary filmmaker Michael Shoob spent two weeks at Levering Orchard in Cana, Virginia. He filmed the Levering family as two sons and two daughters of Sam and Miriam Levering came home to help their parents at the orchard's annual cherry harvest. It's a classic American story, told with startling candor and intimacy as the Leverings come to forget the presence of the camera and reveal the depths of their emotions about the uncertain future of a place they love. Particularly powerful is the quiet leadership of Miriam Levering, longtime teacher at Mount Airy Senior and Junior High, remembered fondly to this day by legions of former students.
