Join us for a timely and thought-provoking conversation in support of Where We Find Ourselves, Satchel Lee’s multidisciplinary exhibition exploring memory, place, and Black perception across generations through the lens of Houston’s historic Freedmen’s Town. Moderated by Taylor Jackson, CEO of Houston Arts Alliance, the discussion will feature Amarie Gipson, Founder of The Reading Room HTX, and Mo Nikole, Founder of blkwomanmusiq. Together, they will engage the themes of Lee’s exhibition—ranging from reclamation and cultural survival to the role of art in preserving Black spatial histories. The panelists will consider how photography, film, architectural modeling, community testimony, and sound intersect as both archival practice and acts of care. Framed by Freedmen’s Town’s legacy of resilience, this dialogue invites audiences to reflect on the ways art amplifies cultural memory while shaping contemporary narratives of belonging and place.
