In conversation: Joe Conroy with Curtis Garner

The Waves bookshop & Cipher Press celebrate the publication eve of Joe Conroy’s highly anticipated debut novel IN OUT
About this Event

‘Every day was as boring as the next.’ So begins IN OUT, which follows an unhinged twink adrift in a Britain hurtling towards the monumental changes of 2016. The antihero, an Oxford dropout with Kate Moss cheekbones, uses Grindr to wrangle plates of cacio e pepe, otherwise surviving on Malbec, keys of ketamine, and cheese puff-topped pizza. After one date leads to assault, he finds himself suddenly sober in his mother’s hyper-bougie suburban townhouse. As he unravels, past and present collide with catastrophic consequences. A quicksilver study of masculinity, class, family, and addiction.

IN OUT has been making the rounds amongst some very special novelists — with its author being called ‘a mad genius and an essential new voice in British literature’ (Sufiyaan Salam), ‘a huge new talent’ (Sophie Mackintosh), and ‘a bright young voice who writes with disarming humour and nerve’ (Lucie Elven).

For this special occasion, Joe will be in conversation with Curtis Garner — celebrated author of the instant queer classic' (Jon Ransom) ISAAC and the 'masterful' (Attitude) new novel ORANGE.
