Next Level Class - A Special 5 Week Intensive Workshop and Performance Showcase with Bill Chott (Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place, SNL, The Ringer)
Ever walk into a room and instantly know who’s “in charge”?
Ever notice how one person can calm a tense conversation… while another accidentally escalates it?
That's status.
In improvisation, status is one of the most powerful tools for creating believable characters, dynamic scenes, comedy, tension, and connection.
In everyday life, status affects communication, confidence, leadership, dating, friendships, interviews, negotiations, public speaking, parenting, teamwork, and nearly every social interaction we have.
In this fun, supportive, and highly interactive workshop, you’ll explore how status works — both onstage and off — through improvisation exercises, scene work, movement, observation, and play.
Whether you’re an actor, improviser, business professional, creative artist, leader, student, or simply someone who wants to feel more confident and socially aware, this class will give you practical tools you can use immediately.
In This Workshop, You’ll Learn:
- How status creates comedy, tension, and compelling scenes
- How to recognize high-status and low-status behavior instantly
- How body language, eye contact, voice, posture, and silence affect perception
- How to play status shifts for stronger improv and acting scenes
- How to avoid “status fighting” that can stall scenes and conversations
- How to project confidence without seeming aggressive
- How to become more charismatic, present, and socially aware
- How to adapt your communication style in real-world situations
- How status affects leadership, teamwork, dating, networking, and public speaking
- How to use vulnerability and emotional intelligence as strengths
- How to spot hidden status games happening in everyday interactions
Why Study Status?
Great improvisers know that status is often more important than being “funny.”
The strongest scenes happen when performers understand relationships, power dynamics, emotional shifts, and human behavior.
But these skills don’t stop at the stage.
Understanding status can help you:
- Feel more comfortable in social situations
- Handle difficult conversations more effectively
- Become a better listener and collaborator
- Increase confidence in meetings and presentations
- Improve auditions and performances
- Strengthen leadership and communication skills
- Develop deeper emotional awareness and empathy
Most importantly — it helps you become more aware of the roles we unconsciously play… and gives you the freedom to choose new ones.
