Course Overview
This six-week course focuses on developing the comic improv style 'Game of the Scene'. This technique will help improvisers take well developed and grounded scenes and add on top a comedy pattern that will have your audiences laughing. In additon, you will learn the performance format of the Armando, learning to improvise monologues and create comedy premise from these monologues to produce a series of fun scenes that audiences will love.
As well as strengthening your improv, the course builds skills that transfer beyond the stage — including confidence, presence, listening, and responding in the moment. The emphasis is on relaxed, truthful play, helping you feel more comfortable taking risks, trusting your choices, and collaborating with others.
What is Game of the Scene?
"Game of the Scene", developed by the Upright Citizens Brigade, refers to identifying the first unusual or funny thing in a scene and then heightening it through repetition to create a structured, sketch-like comedy performance in a long form improv scene.
What you’ll learn?
By the end of the course, you will have developed:
- How to make weave comedy in your scenes using Game of the Scene.
- How to use character POV, emotions and beliefs to drive funny scenes
- How to improvise a show monologue
- How to initiate scenes with a comic premise taken from monologues
- How to perform the famous long form Armando show format
