Art+Object's second auction of Important Paintings and Contemporary Art will take place on August 6, and suitable consignments are now invited until July 10.
The auction will be headlined by several major works by Aotearoa - New Zealand's most significant painter, Colin McCahon. He will be represented in the catalogue by a significant 1962 painting from his 'Northland' series, which was exhibited in the landmark international exhibition 'A Question of Faith' at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. Another highlight is a magnificent Shane Cotton painting from 1997, entitled Middle North. Originally exhibited at Mori Gallery in Sydney, the painting is the most significant by the artist to appear at auction since Kaua E Raweke I Te Manu (1997), from the collection of Adrian Burr and Peter Tatham which sold for a record price in November 2021. Further highlights include major works by Bill Hammond, Trevor Moffitt, Michael Parekōwhai, Michael Smither and more.
