About this Event
It takes a talented group of dedicated individuals to maintain strong and effective charter schools for the students and families who want them. To help those individuals who have been committed to building and supporting the strongest charters in Ohio, we invite you to join us for an in-person event that will be interesting, informative, and helpful to the work of serving charter school staff, students, and families.
Presentations will include:
- 9:00 Welcome by Michael Petrilli, President, The Thomas B. Fordham Foundation and Institute, followed by Department of Education and Workforce Director Steven Dackin discussing the role of charters in Ohio's education system.
- 9:30 Fordham Institute Vice President for Ohio Policy Chad Aldis on the history and evolution of Ohio’s charter sector.
- 10:30 A panel discussion on the politics outlook in education with a focus on charter schools, moderated by David Taylor of the Dayton Early College Academy (DECA), joined by panelists Rep. Gayle Manning, Sen. Andrew Brenner, and Rep. Adam Bird.
- 11:15 Jim Goenner, Ph.D, President and CEO of the National Charter Schools Institute discussing the role and duties of charter board members.
The gathering will also provide an opportunity to network with other board members and school leaders to share best practices, shared experiences, and governance issues.
There is no cost to attend, but registration is required.
Doors open at 8:30 am for networking, with coffee and light breakfast available.
We hope to see you there!
