About this Event
Immortal Clothes: Pockets
Let’s be honest, pants without real pockets are a crime against humanity. In this class, we’re taking justice into our own hands by learning how to make, fix, and supercharge your pockets. You’ll learn how to lengthen too-shallow front jean pockets, and sneak pockets into the side seams of pocketless garments—because everyone needs a perfect pocket to stash essentials.
Whether you’re tired of “decorative” pockets, need space for more than just pocket change, or just want to give your clothes a little DIY rebellion, this class has you covered. By the end, you’ll have the skills to fight back against the fashion industry’s pocket conspiracy—and never settle for less than functional style again.
Participants must have basic knowledge of how to use a sewing machine: threading the machine, threading the bobbin, and creating a straight stitch.
Machines will be provided but if you have your own, please bring it! If you are bringing your machine please let us know at [email protected]
Please note we have a sliding scale for tickets for this event! The break down is as follows:
General Admission #1: Covers the cost of workshop and materials
General Admission #2: Covers cost of workshop, materials, and supports the instructor
General Admission #3: Covers cost of workshop, materials, supports the instructor, and helps keep our workshops more accessible
About Tria Connell
Tria Connell has been on a mission with a needle, thread, and a machine since she was 13! Armed with a degree in Fashion Design, she made her way to San Francisco, where she dove headfirst into the world of drag—designing, patterning, and building show-stopping costumes that still light up stages today. At the same time, her career path wound through the technical design departments of Esprit and Old Navy, sharpening her expertise in patternmaking and fit, before she landed at the Academy of Art University in 2014. There, she introduced new generations to the power of sewing through the Fashion Sewing Techniques class and the Art Experience program for high schoolers. In July 2024, she brought her skills (and her love for creative mischief) to Scrap, where she teaches with equal parts technical precision and DIY rebellion.
When she’s not sewing, Tria’s saving lives—rabbit lives, specifically. A dedicated volunteer with SaveABunny, she shares her home with two rescue rabbits who think they run the place (and they’re not wrong).
