Discover fascinating stops at sites used in creative ways to funnel booze into southeast Michigan and beyond. Hear the stories of Chicago’s gangster businessman Al Capone’s invasion of Detroit’s prohibition industry and witness the places and events that lead to the rise and fall of the Purple Gang who dominated Detroit’s bootlegging at any cost.
The Prohibition journey will start at 9:45 a.m. on April 26, 2025, at the Michigan Wine and Beer Portal in Monroe, MI! Check in at the bar and then pick your seats on a deluxe motorcoach equipped with everything needed to make your experience comfortable and amazing! Your journey will take you to numerous locations while traveling rum runners’ road on its many twists and turns to Detroit. Experience the sites and stories behind one of America’s most challenging and profitable times. It is estimated that up to 75% of all alcohol illegally smuggled from Canada during prohibition was snuck across the Detroit River corridor resulting in Detroit’s 2nd largest industry generating an estimated $215 million annually by 1929 with law enforcement on both sides of the law.
Enjoy a stop for lunch and beverages along rum runners’ road and then venture to Ann Arbor Distilling Company for a behind the scenes tour with owner Michael Fox and experience a special spirit tasting exploration. Board the bus for your continued rum runners journey exploring prohibition history in Dundee, Michigan as you venture back to the Michigan Wine and Beer Portal for a prohibition repeal celebration dinner. The bus will arrive back at the Michigan Wine and Beer Portal at about 6:40 p.m. and dinner will conclude at about 7:45 p.m.
The all-inclusive 10-hour experience includes deluxe motorcoach transportation, tour guides, on-bus snacks and drinks (no alcohol may be consumed on the bus), lunch and drinks along rum runners’ road, all spirit tastings and experiences at Ann Arbor Distilling and a drink and dinner at the Michigan Wine and Beer Portal.
