OBX Connects - November - MakeAmplify and DEVELOP3D
About this Event

November's OBX Connects is about imagination and invention from two varying perspectives of working with technology:

Jen and Zach Walker from MakeAmplify will speak about their new 'Touch and Glow' platform used to create real-time interactive immserive experiences for everybody.

Stephen Holmes Editor at DEVELOP3D will talk about covering product design and the cutting-edge technologies used.

TALK 1:

Touch & Glow: Creating immersive worlds for everyone:

Jen and Zach from makeamplify have recently launched their Touch and Glow platform - a real-time interactive colouring with light technology which allows for bespoke content to be created for each new iteration - the creative process is as simple as touching a screen for the audience. Zach will be discussing their new Touch & Glow technology and how they got to this point.

Zach Walker and Jen Irons: Co-Artistic Director : makeamplify:

MakeAmplify is a creative technology company. We specialise in the design and production of immersive events and interactive experiences, combining visual arts, performance and cutting-edge technology to transform places and connect people. From large-scale outdoor spectacles to smaller, close-up sensory experiences, everything we do shows how art happens everywhere, and our work reveals it and allows everyone to be part of it.

TALK 2:

Design and technology:

The way in which things around us are designed and made is quickly changing and much of this is down to exciting new technologies enabling more sustainable, higher performing products that often have a few other tricks up their sleeves.

3D printing, AI and computational design are three of the touchpoints for this talk –from how they’re helping win gold medals at the Paris Olympics; creating new electric transport, or even shaping the costumes in movies. It will give you the chance to learn about the latest technologies being used in a non-techy way, ask some questions and get to handle some products and parts that are at the pinnacle of what’s possible.

Hopefully it will provide some inspiration regardless of what you are creating, or have plans for!

Stephen Holmes: Editor DEVELOPED3D:

A design and technology journalist with over 16 years of experience in covering product design and the cutting-edge technologies used, Stephen’s work gives him a front seat view across multiple industries - from intricate jewellery creations, through consumer gadgets, automotive design, and up to the new reaches of space travel.

With this insight he marshals the print and digital presence of DEVELOP3D, and gives talks on how technology, materials and the digital age are changing the world we live in.
