I will be at the Oak Brook Public Library on Saturday, August 16th, for a public demonstration sponsored by the Illinois Watercolor Society. My demonstration begins at 2:00 p.m. If you are interested in attending, go to the Oak Brook Public Library website and click on Programs to register. Spaces are limited.
This is another painting done from the restaurant, Tavern on Rush, in Chicago. It is a bustling area from spring through fall, where two streets merge, creating a small, triangular island park, surrounded by restaurants and their sidewalk seating. Patrons share the space with passersby, vehicular traffic, and waitresses and waiters going to and fro. On my way to class, I will often pass through the area, sometimes stopping to gaze with amazement at the order within all the chaos. I just returned from northern Wisconsin, where I was kayaking on an incredibly beautiful and quiet Mink River Estuary. The contrast of this street scene will be duly noted on my return to class this weekend. The painting depicts a quieter time of day, tables prepped with linens, awaiting the oncoming rush. This is a very direct painting where white paper plays a significant role.
