General theme: Telling the Exciting Tales of Our Past
This conference provides a good opportunity to demonstrate the important interactions between humans and oceans and to understand their importance for the future of the oceans. Studying underwater and coastal cultural heritage allows scientists to tap into the world’s collective memory and to enhance it to inspiring stories and into a tool that can inform on sea level evolution and climatic change. The integration of underwater cultural heritage in information on the socio-cultural values of the oceans can strengthen the emotional ties we have with the oceans.
IKUWA 8 is organised by the IKUWA Steering Committee, Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ), Flanders Heritage Agency and the City of Ostend.
