Ikebana with Rachel Johnson

Ikebana is simple yet dynamic. With a "less is more" style and an eye for creative reuse, you can make an edgy sculptural arrangement using minimal and recycled materials. In this session you will learn to manipulate leaves to form interesting shapes and lines. You’ll make or find a container with character with which to complete an ikebana inspired design to take home.

About Rachel Johnson

With a background in shiatsu, teaching, and visual design, Japanese flower arranging - Ikebana - struck many chords with me. What began as a gardener’s creative outlet, became an artistic discipline, a livelihood, and most of all a lifelong path of learning.

I began my Sogetsu studies over twenty years ago and have been teaching since 2010. I maintain active membership in the Sogetsu Teachers' Association and hold the rank of Komon. In the San Francisco Bay Area, I regularly exhibit at the deYoung and Asian Art Museums, and organize workshops for Soho Study Group members.
