If Walls could Speak: An Architectural History of Manchester Museum
Manchester Museum is more than a home for extraordinary collections - it has a story of its own.
Join us for an architecture focused tour of Manchester Museum, designed by Alfred Waterhouse, one of Victorian Britain's most celebrated architects. From its Neo-Gothic beginnings to the award-winning museum we know today, discover how the building has evolved over more than 130 years. Learn more about the ideas, people and values that have shaped its architecture over more than 130 years and uncover details that reveal how the Museum has changed alongside Manchester itself.
Together, we’ll discuss how architecture can tell stories about knowledge, identity, community and belonging, offering new ways of seeing a familiar place. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a regular visitor to the Museum, this tour invites you to look up, look closer, and discover the history written into the fabric of the building.
