Manfred Bester received a doctorate in Physics from the University of Cologne, Germany, in 1984. In 1986 he joined the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) where he worked on infrared astronomy and aerospace engineering projects. He managed operations for multiple NASA space science satellite missions from a control center on the UCB campus. Following his retirement in 2018 he and his wife moved to Seattle, enjoying living in the Pacific Northwest. Manfred has been an amateur radio operator since 1975 (call signs DL5KR and AG7NR).
