The Idylls are vocalist Cathy Crisci and Tom Biller on guitar/vocals. This bluesy yet spirited acoustic duo covers an eclectic blend of classic rock through the decades, along with Motown, oldies, 80s hits, deep cuts and much more.
Tom fell in love with the guitar at a very young age after seeing the Beatles on TV. Showing musical aptitude in elementary school, his parents wanted him to play the violin, but he explained he would much rather pursue the guitar. His first teacher taught him the chords to “Hey Jude”, and he was hooked. Further studies included a variety of different styles and genres including folk, country, rock, and pop. Tom has been playing both electric and acoustic guitars in these genres since 1978.
Cathy has been actively performing for three decades. Growing up the daughter of a band instructor and an artist, her love of music was cultivated early on, including a combination of classical music and Broadway, jazz standards, oldies, and her Mom’s Beatles collection on vinyl. Classically trained, she studied both voice and clarinet, participating in concert/marching band, chorus, select choir, and musical theater throughout her education, including her college years at SUNY Oneonta. Over the past 25 years, Cathy has been a lead singer in dozens of cover groups and ensembles in the city and locally, including her bands The Jupiters (Oneonta), Luxe (Astoria, Queens) and acoustic duo The Idylls. While living in Queens, she sang and composed/performed clarinet instrumentals for various original projects and recordings. One of the original albums she was a part of featured guest artist, the late Irish singer-songwriter and musician Shane MacGowan of The Pogues. Now residing in Oneonta with her husband, she enjoys collaborating with a host of talented musicians from across the region.
