Come join us for ICS , , and ! This in-person event will be held at the Elkhart County Health Department. Get ready to learn from professionals in the field. This one-day course will prepare you for the online exams and faciliate a mutual understanding of incident command in public safety/disaster management to incident command within a healthcare setting. Participants are encouraged to bring an internet capable device.
Targeted Audience: Public safety personnel, healthcare professionals, long-term care professionals, and all personnel involved with emergency planning, response, and/or recovery efforts.
Instructors: Jen Tobey, Elkhart County Executive Director of Emergency Management and Mark J. Philson, D2 HCC Training and Exercise Coordinator.
Topics include:
- The principles and basic structure of the Incident Command System (ICS).
- NIMS management characteristics that are the foundation of the ICS.
- ICS functional areas and the roles of the Incident Commander and Command Staff.
- Describe the General Staff roles within ICS.
- How NIMS management characteristics apply to ICS for a variety of roles and disciplines.
- How NIMS Management Characteristics relate to Incident Command and Unified Command.
- Delegation of authority process, implementing authorities, management by objectives, and preparedness plans and objectives.
- ICS organizational components, the Command Staff, the General Staff, and ICS tools.
- Describe different types of briefings and meetings.
- Explain flexibility within the standard ICS organizational structure.
- Explain transfer of command briefings and procedures.
- Use ICS to manage an incident or event.
- Identify the key concepts, principles, scope, and applicability underlying NIMS.
- Describe activities and methods for managing resources.
- Identify and describe Incident Command System (ICS) organizational structures.
- Emergency Operations Center (EOC) functions, common models for staff organization, and activation levels.
- Interconnectivity within the NIMS Management and Coordination structures: ICS, EOC, Joint Information System (JIS), and Multiagency Coordination Groups (MAC Groups).
- Characteristics of communications and information systems, effective communication, incident information, and communication standards and formats.
