The rise of right-wing populism has made our world less secure and less democratic in the recent years. The troubling development has sparked renewed interest in the works of political philosopher Hannah Arendt, one of the most important writers on totalitarianism.
In this year’s engaging ICORN-lecture featuring award-winning writer Lyndsey Stonebridge as she discusses her latest book, We Are Free to Change the World: Hannah Arendt's Lessons in Love and Disobedience. In the -lecture, Stonebridge will be exploring how Arendt's experiences and thoughts on powerlessness and vulnerability resonate in our current, troubled times.
Lyndsey Stonebridge is a professor of humanities and human rights at the University of Birmingham, UK. She has authored several acclaimed books about exile, human rights and democracy. Her latest book, We Are Free to Change the World, was published earlier this year.
This event is organized by ICORN, the International Cities of Refuge Network, an independent organization of 85 cities worldwide dedicated to protecting persecuted writers and artists, promoting freedom of expression, and defending democratic values. ICORN was founded in Stavanger in 2005, and past ICORN-speakers at Kapittel have included notable figures such as Svetlana Alexievich, Anna Funder, Wole Soyinka, Masha Gessen, Anne Appelbaum, and Mohamedou Slahi.
The event will be held in English and moderated by Helge Lunde, executive director of ICORN. Don't miss this opportunity to delve into the powerful ideas of Hannah Arendt and their relevance today.
