Ian Jelf's (Virtual) Hackney

Considering its proximity to Central London, Hackney doesn't get much explored.......which is a great pity as there's a lot of see and learn.

Once a semi-rural retreat for London's wealthy, the coming of canal and railways altered the area forever and it became arguably the very epitome of London's East End.

After some difficult years when deprivation was the local watchword, Hackney is now rather on the up.......with a population that is young, diverse.......and discovering that the old cliche that the area is badly connected is actually far from the truth.

So come and find mansions, greenery, art and history, all a ride on the 26 bus route or the newly-named Weaver Line away! ;-)
