The theme will be the overlooked trapping, locking and striking elements of the Pinan / Heian kata! The ability to control and manipulate the enemy’s limbs to open and maintain pathways for strikes, as well as disrupt their posture and line of attack, is a vital part of close quarter combat. The Pinan / Heian kata – when correctly understood and approached – contain solid information and guidance on these elements.
