I Was a Hurricane World Premiere
About this Event
Join us for the World Premiere of I Was a Hurricane, a documentary more than twenty years in the making.
On Saturday, August 8th, 2026, the Amherst Town Common will transform into an outdoor cinema as community members, friends, families, and supporters gather under the stars to experience the story for the very first time.
I Was a Hurricane tells the story of the 2003 Amherst Hurricanes Ultimate Frisbee team and the defining moment that challenged a group of teenage athletes to choose between winning and integrity. Through rare archival footage, present-day interviews, and a twenty-year journey of reflection, the series explores sportsmanship, accountability, community, and what it means to grow into the people we hope to become.
The project has been independently produced over more than two decades and brings together original footage captured during the events of 2003 with newly filmed interviews and perspectives.
This premiere is more than a screening, it is also an opportunity to become part of the film itself.
Aattendees will be invited to participate in the filming of the documentary's final epilogue scene. The sequence will capture the community gathered together on the Common, reflecting the enduring impact of the story and the people who helped bring it to life. By attending, you may appear in the finished film and help create its final cinematic moment.
Bring a chair, gather your family, friends, and teammates, and join us for an unforgettable evening of film, reflection, and community, culminating with the opportunity to become part of the documentary's final scene.
