August marks I Scream Social’s birthday month (!!!) and we’re celebrating big with poets Nala Washington, Ira Goga, and Osmani R. Ochoa! Leave room for ice cream, RSVP for the giveaways, and bring your most festive writing for the open mic!
Presented by Host Publications, I Scream Social is a monthly feminist reading series and ice cream party that takes place at Alienated Majesty Books. We aim to celebrate and empower historically marginalized writers and share incredible literature and diverse perspectives to an Austin-area audience. Hosted this month by poets Claire Bowman & Katelin Kelly! Free & open to all!

Best of the Net Nominee Nala Washington is a poet, writer, and educator completing her MFA at Texas State University. You can find her words currently/forthcoming in Remington Review, South Florida Poetry Journal, Midnight & Indigo Lit, The Hemlock Journal, Mouthful of Salt, The Santa Clara Review, and more.
Ira Goga is a trans poet and educator currently living in Austin, Texas. Their poems can be found if you look closely.
Osmani R. Ochoa is a queer Mexican-Xicano poet and longtime local and national organizer for immigrant and worker rights. Their migrant futurist writing addresses themes of immigration, queerness, and borders. They won the Abode Press Chapbook Prize for How to Survive an Asthma Attack in a Climate Apocalypse.

The open mic is reserved for writers from historically marginalized communities.
Because slots are limited and we want to make room for everyone, we ask that you wait until 7:10 to sign up if you joined us for the open mic the previous month.
