In 1996, two isolated teenagers bond over a late-night TV show called The Pink Opaque. As years pass, the line between the show’s mythology and their own reality begins to blur in increasingly disturbing ways. Written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun and produced by Emma Stone and Dave McCary, I Saw the TV Glow is a psychological horror film about identity, memory, and the cost of living a life that doesn’t feel like your own.
Schoenbrun, a transgender filmmaker, wrote the script as an allegory for the transgender experience, drawing on their own life. Filmmakers Martin Scorsese and Paul Schrader both praised the film publicly after its release, with Schrader calling Schoenbrun “hands down the most original voice in film in the last decade.”
I Saw the TV Glow received five nominations at the Independent Spirit Awards including Best Feature, and won the Dorian Award for both LGBTQ Film of the Year and LGBTQ Screenplay of the Year.
