Join The Briar Patch for a panel event called "I Know What You're Reading This Summer" featuring Maine horror creators and moderated by Justin Soderberg of the Capes and Tights podcast, on May 29 at 7pm at BookSpace, our event space at 48 Columbia Street here in Downtown Bangor. ABOUT THE PANELISTS
Zak Cowell is a Horror Writers Association author lives with his wife in Bangor, Maine. His short stories have appeared in various places, including The NoSleep Podcast. His horror novella, The Obsidian Mirror, was published in 2026.
Jesse Speed is a writer and artist living in Bangor, Maine. He enjoys many other hobbies including puppetry, watching horror movies and, of course, reading. He also takes joy in spending time with his wife, Jamie and their son, Milo. They have a dog named Fang.
Fox Emm writes bizarre, genre-defying fiction and enjoys playing with surreal themes. When they're not writing they can be found curled up with a book or working at Pro Libris in Bangor.
Samantha Eaton is a horror author based in coastal Maine with her hellhounds, cat, and chickens. She loves creature features and folk horror set in small towns, and always makes sure her named animal characters get a happy ending.
William A. Chanler is the author of the genre-crossing novel Son of Terror: Frankenstein Continued and thriller Terrorized in New York City. He’s seeking publication of the upmarket Second Chances and novella Frankenstein, Part II.
Katherine Silva is an ace Maine horror author, often mixing grief and existentialism with her love of the wilderness in her works. She's a three-time MLA finalist for speculative fiction and EIC of Strange Wilds Press.
Amber Hathaway is a horror and dark fiction writer and author of the Little White Flowers series. She lives in central Maine with her partner, Brian Toner.
Justin Soderberg is the founder and host of the Capes and Tights Podcast, which launched in August 2021 and is set to surpass 300 episodes this fall. Through Capes and Tights, his reviews have appeared on the print editions of more than 40 graphic novels and over six novels.
ABOUT THE BRIAR PATCH
For more than 35 years, The Briar Patch has inspired and delighted generations of readers of all ages in Bangor, Maine. Specializing in children's books and creative playthings from birth through high school, the shop also carries grownup books including fiction, cookbooks, titles on parenting, resources for teachers and more. Games, crafts, puzzles, and more fill the store with something for everyone. We also host regular book signings, storytimes and other events.
