Collective Architecture invites you to an evening of art and conversation at our Glasgow studio, as we welcome acclaimed painter Marianne Greated and her exhibition I Hear a New World.

Building on her exhibition This Island Earth shown at Callendar House, Falkirk, Greated's bold, luminous paintings explore the contested landscapes where nature and industry collide. Her work focuses on two sites of profound environmental significance — a granite quarry on the Danish island of Bornholm and Grangemouth, the UK's oldest oil refinery, which ceased operations in April 2025. These scarred, magnificent landscapes reckon with extraction, loss and the urgent question of what comes next.

It is a question that feels particularly alive right now.

The Exhibition | I Hear a New World

I Hear a New World brings together paintings rooted in Greated's long-standing research into renewable energy and the way power - industrial, political, elemental - is written across our landscapes. Using paint as her tool of inquiry, Greated captures environments that are neither purely natural nor purely man-made, but something altogether more complex and compelling.

Marianne Greated is Head of Art at Edinburgh College of Art, University of Edinburgh, and has exhibited widely across the UK and internationally, with solo shows in Belarus, Denmark, Greece, India and Spain, and a recent exhibition at Callendar House, Falkirk.
