About this Event
Hänsel und Gretel
Composed by Engelbert Humperdinck
Libretto by Adelheid Wette
Reduced Orchestration by Jonathan Lyness
Stage Direction by Jane Davidson
Master of Music (Opera Performance), Master of Production (Stage) and Melbourne Conservatorium of Music Orchestra Students present Engelbert Humperdinck's 1893 opera, Hänsel und Gretel. It presents a darker, more mature interpretation of the beloved opera in its original German with English surtitles. This adaptation of the Grimm Brothers' folktale, with a libretto by Humperdinck's sister, Adelheid Wette, is crafted especially for devoted opera enthusiasts.
In the afternoons of 11 -14 December, we are also presenting a shortened and more child-friendly rendition of this opera, Hansel and Gretel for Schools and Families, presented in English. For more information and tickets, visit this link.
