Hurricanes Mean Business Workshop - DEMHS Region 2

This Hurricanes Mean Business Workshop is being sponsored by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in cooperation with the Connecticut Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, and the National Weather Service. The workshop is intended for municipalities, homeowners and businesses to raise awareness of the risks and threats from coastal and inland flooding from hurricanes and winter storms.

Info: Storm surge is the number one killer in a hurricane. What can you do to prevent damage and protect your family during a hurricane.

Info: Do you know if your home or business is in the Hurricane Evacuation Zone? The Army Corps of Engineers will display maps of the Hurricane Evacuation Zone and answer your questions.

Info: The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection will provide information on construction standards and tips for saving money from damages along the coast and along rivers in Southern Connecticut.

Info: What would flooding from a major hurricane actually look like along the coast. Come and see a demonstration from the Connecticut GIS Department.

Info: Sea levels are rising. Regardless of the cause, we must be ready in case flooding from hurricanes and winter storms becomes worst over the coming years.
