Celebrate North Country history through the eyes of a local family. During the War of 1812, Orville Hungerford transported goods from New York City to U.S. military outposts along the Canadian frontier. It was an arduous journey that improved when the Erie Canal, linking the heartland to the nation’s commercial capital, was completed in 1825. Seven years later, Hungerford wanted to connect the North Country via an iron horse. In 1851, the Watertown and Rome Railroad was completed months after his death.
To honor and celebrate this North Country family, we will have a display of their family heirlooms as well as comic book art detailing the history of the family. Light refreshments will be provided. The displays will be up in our South Reading Room from Friday, June 13 – Friday, August 8.
