About this Event
Feeling sad, worried, angry, or other emotions about climate and ecological change? It's not just you.
Join in community with psychologist Laura Carter Robinson to:
- Share and learn about eco-emotions
- Reflect on and be guided by your own climate story and values
- Feel supported around climate change as we head toward the election and beyond
We'll be gathering both indoors and outdoors at The Farm on Jennings, a lovely working farm 15 minutes from downtown Ann Arbor that offers event space. Please dress appropriately for the weather and for a very brief outdoor walk, and please bring a blanket or mat to sit on when outdoors. When you arrive, please go around either side of the house to access the enclosed porch on the back, where we'll meet.
This event is for ages 18 and up only.
Since COVID is widespread right now, thank you for caring for others by not attending if you have cold-like symptoms. We'll have some windows open when we're indoors; masks are fully optional but welcome for those who wish to wear them.
Please note that this program is an educational workshop and discussion available to the public and is not psychotherapy. While the event facilitator is a psychologist and a therapist, she is not functioning in a therapist role during this event or in the advertising or any other activities associated with this event. Attending this event does not constitute a therapeutic relationship between the event facilitator and attendees.
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR, LAURA CARTER ROBINSON, PSY.D.
I'm a fully-licensed clinical psychologist and ecotherapist in Ann Arbor, Michigan, who sees clients experiencing climate distress locally and around the country. I'm also a speaker, educator, and consultant on psychological aspects of climate change and provide climate coaching to help people who want to focus on finding their own space in the climate world or who are seeking guidance and support in taking environmental or climate-based action.
I am part of the American Psychological Association's Climate Change Community of Scholars and Practitioners and until December 2023 was on the executive committee of Climate Psychology Alliance of North America. I've also trained and volunteered as a psychologist-advocate on climate change and mental health with the American Psychological Association andhave testified in front of the Michigan Senate Committee on Natural Resources, Environment, and Great Lakes.
As an award-winning environmental grassroots organizer, experienced hiker, and lifelong outdoors person who's had a deep reverence for nature my whole life, I've personally long felt part of and sustained by nature and drawn to protecting it and our environment. I feel it's essential for me as a clinical psychologist to use my professional experience to intervene in whatever way I can to address the climate crisis.
