Your friendly neighbourhood piano man and session gun Hong Yang (aka Hong's Songs) has finally decided to rip the band aid and put on a solo headline show for the first time featuring a scrumptious package of his yet-unreleased originals and fun unexpected covers. Three (!) solid sets of jazzy, soulful, rockin’, poppin’, funky ear worms, epic fusion pieces and heartstring tuggers. Dynamics ranging from pianissimo to fortissimo, tempos from slow burner to floor banger, rhythms from blues to Afro-latin, lyrics from folky introspective to lovey dovey to surreal expressionist. This is a rare chance to see Hong creatively unhinged.You'd otherwise catch him around the local music scene playing for many independent bands and solo artists, including Firetail, Headphones Jones, Yusupha Ngum and the Affia Band, Alcides Neto, G Tano, Barkada, Three Base Hit, and more. These collaborations have ended him up on beautiful stages at Melbourne Recital Centre, Federation Square, NGV, Northcote Theatre, Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Woodford Folk Festival and the National Folk Festival.
There will be special guests throughout the night to help add spice and thickness to the sonic sauce. Oh, also it just so happens to be the week of Hong's 40th birthday!!! So even more reason to come and celebrate (and commiserate).
