A lecture for English Advanced students on the comparative study of two texts in Module A: Textual Conversations.
About this Event

As part of Advanced Module A: Textual Conversations students will have the option of studying one of the following pairs of texts:

  • Keats, John, The Complete Poems & Campion, Jane, Bright Star.
  • Shakespeare, William, The Tempest & Atwood, Margaret, Hag-Seed.
  • Donne, John, A Selection of His Poetry & Edson, Margaret, W;t.
  • Camus, Albert, The Stranger & Daoud, Kamel, The Meursault Investigation.
  • Shakespeare, William, King Richard III & Pacino, Al, Looking for Richard.
  • Woolf, Virginia, Mrs Dalloway & Daldry, Stephen, The Hours.
  • Plath, Sylvia, Ariel & Hughes, Ted, Birthday Letters.

In this lecture students will reflect upon the ways in which the comparative study of two texts aligns and collide in their respective conventions, contexts, values, and purpose. Students will also consider what connects the two texts, what ideas have been recycled and how contexts can shape a text, revealing their resonances and dissonances.

Please bring a water bottle and fully charged laptop or note taking items.

Reserve copies of the prescribed texts here
