Grime Scene Investigation is a challenge day for students to support talent and development in the intellectual and social-emotional domains.Teams of 4 students from different schools are presented with a challenge relating to the local environment. The problem replicates a ‘real world’ style issue linked to the curriculum areas of science and geography to make it purposeful.
Students collect data, apply reasoning and formulate a response to the environmental challenge. They communicate their findings to their peers and make recommendations for the local council to consider.
This develops talent in the social-emotional domain by influencing others and communicating effectively, and in the intellectual domain by having students engage inauthentic, challenging problem-solving.
Activities may include:
Analysis of water quality and issues.
Examination of erosion and management.
Investigation of human impacts, human use and management.
The event begins at 10am and concludes at 2pm.
Schools are encouraged to enter 2 teams.

New to Grime Scene2025:
If schools experience difficulty releasing a teacher to accompany the students for the day, Awabakal Environmental Education Centre teaching staff, who are Department of Education teachers, can take on the role of supervising your students throughout the day. Students would need to be transported to and from the venue.
