Hoyt Arboretum with People of Color Outdoors!
About this Event
Hoyt Arboretum holds over 6,000 trees representing more than 2,300 species from every continent on earth. For many east Portland residents, this walk offers something rare: the chance to explore a place new to them, and an opportunity to see trees from all over the world.
We'll walk among trees from Japan, Korea, Ethiopia, Mexico, the Pacific Islands, and beyond. Our guide will introduce each with its origin story, its ecology, and its cultural significance to the people who have lived alongside it. Participants are invited to find a tree that feels familiar or one entirely new, and spend time with it. This walk often opens unexpected conversations about memory, belonging, and what it means to feel at home in a landscape.
