This course will introduce the Maryland nutrient management planning (NMP) process from beginning to end.
About this Event

Topics covered: This course will cover the following NMP plan writing topics:

  • MD Nutrient Management Regulations 
  • Generating Crop Recommendations
  • Organic Sampling and Testing
  • Data Collection
  • Soil Sampling and Testing
  • Livestock, Fruit, and Christmas Trees in NMP’s
  • Complete an example NMP
  • Introduction to the PMT*
  • Calibrations and Nitrate Testing
  • Reporting and Recordkeeping

      *In-depth PMT training will be provided at a later date for those interested


If fewer than 5 individuals register to be in-person by October 14, 2026 the program will be moved to be fully remote with no in-person instruction.

Who should attend: All are welcome; however, priority will be given to certified consultants who intend on writing Maryland nutrient management plans, followed by certified individuals who need to obtain CEUs. Registration will be limited.

NuMan Pro 5.3 will be utilized during this course. NuMan Pro 5.3 is not compatible with Mac or Chromebooks. You are not required to purchase NuMan to participate, however, purchase instructions will be emailed upon registration.  

Cost: The cost for this course is $30, which includes lunch for both days, or no cost if you prefer to bring your own lunch, however, no refrigeration is available on site. 

There is also a one-time purchase fee for NuMan Pro 5.3, which is $75. NuMan Pro payments are done via a secure link provided directly by the University of Maryland.
