Distinguish truth from misinformation with Alabama Media ProfessionalsAlabama Media Professionals invites community members of all ages to hear Alee Quick, Director of Community Engagement for The News Literacy Project, Clay Carey, Associate Professor of Communication and Media at Samford University, and Olivia McMurrey, Freelance Journalist for News Outlets including Birmingham Watch and WBHM, discuss how to discern between fake news and vital information necessary to make life changing decisions in everyday life and politics. Weeding through misinformation takes time and effort, but with the right tools, it can be made easier. Light snacks will be provided.
Alabama Media Professionals is a volunteer-run nonprofit that provides professional-development and networking opportunities for communicators in various fields, from news media, marketing and advertising to education and book writing. The AMP Education Fund is a 501c3 nonprofit whose mission is to offer communications professionals continuing education in ethical, standards-based practices, to provide scholarships for aspiring communicators, and to help Alabamians of all ages improve their news-literacy skills.
