About this Event

A free talk for Cleveland nonprofit leaders on Adaptive Acquisition, the method Catsnake uses to raise money for some of the world's biggest nonprofits. Friday, September 18 at the Cleveland Foundation, 3:30 to 5:00pm, with beer, wine and light appetizers after. Free parking will be available. Registration required.

Adaptive Acquisition is data-driven storytelling. When WWF asked Catsnake to find its next generation of planned-giving supporters, we wrote 52 stories, released them in waves, and let live audience data decide which ones deserved the budget. For Amnesty International, the same method delivered 3,529 planned-giving leads against a target of 800. For UNICEF, it took the opt-in rate to 67% where previous appeals managed around 10%.

Catsnake learned its trade in one of the most developed fundraising markets in the world. British estates are roughly twice as likely as American wills to include a gift to charity. Marketers built that gap over decades, and Catsnake works at the front of it. This fall we're opening in Cleveland and New York, and we're starting by sharing what we've learned. Join Stephen Follows, Catsnake's Head of Innovation, for one hour. Doors open 3:30pm.

What you'll learn

  • How Adaptive Acquisition finds the story that works before the budget is spent
  • The method that carried one nonprofit past four times its lead target, and took another to a 67% opt-in rate where its previous appeals managed around 10%
  • What 27 campaigns for names like UNICEF, Amnesty International, Greenpeace and WWF taught us about what actually moves people to act
  • Why British estates are roughly twice as likely as American wills to include a charitable gift, and what Cleveland nonprofits can borrow from the marketers who built that gap
