This presentation from Dr. Mara Cohen Ioannides will take us back to the very first Jews to settle in this territory, before the Louisiana Purchase. We will travel the state and see Jewish settlement patterns and learn how this minority group helped develop towns all over Missouri, and how they participated in government, medicine and commerce. Co-sponsored by the Missouri Humanities Council.About the Presenter: Dr. Mara Cohen Ioannides is an expert on the Jewish experience in Missouri. She has written and spoken extensively on this subject around the world. She has a doctorate in Jewish Studies with a specialty in American Judaism and taught for over 25 years at Missouri State University. Currently, she is the president of the Midwest Jewish Studies Association and the founding president of the Ozarks Studies Association.
