About this Event

Institutions across the world will celebrate Italian Language in the World week starting on October 19, and the ICS is pleased to embrace this year’s theme: “Brilliant language: Conceiving, Designing, and Creating with Italian.”

Part of our Italian Language in the World programming includes a showing of American Michelangelo, a documentary highlighting how Constantino Brumidi, a 19th century artist, brought classic Italian art into the halls of buildings such as the the U.S. Capitol, the White House, the Library of Congress, and the National Archives. The documentary brings together the world’s leading experts on Brumidi, who have spent decades rediscovering his art from the shadows of time.

ICS members and guests will also have the opportunity to meet with filmmaker and journalist Antonella Ciancio, who produced, directed, and filmed the documentary. American Michelangelo was made in partnership with the Embassy of Italy in the United States, the National Italian American Foundation, the Italian Cultural Society of Washington D.C., and the White House Historical Association.

After the presentation, guests are welcome to enjoy a light aperitivo and mingle. Feel free to watch the trailer before attending this special event.
