House Cup Challenge: Pumpkin-Carving - 2026

Attention CS House Members:
Here's another opportunity to earn points for your House in the race for the Faculty of Computer Science House Cup... our 16th annual pumpkin-carving contest!
Here are the details...
One pumpkin will be provided to each CS House. Your House will generate design ideas & carve your pumpkin as a team.
The carving will take place on Monday, October 27th, starting at 5:30 pm., and you'll have until 8:30 p.m. to finish. For the carving, we have booked Gillin Hall C122.
Note: We provide the pumpkin and we have a few basic carving tools, but it is up to your team to provide any other materials (e.g. extra/better carving tools, paint, accessories, or whatever else you need for your design). So, make sure that you plan this out ahead of time.
We'll have some Halloween treats on hand for participants who come to the carving event.
Natalie will photograph each team's creation and these photos will be posted on the Faculty's Facebook page. We'll also put all the carved pumpkins on display in the CS ITC building. UNB faculty, staff, and students (who are NOT members of a CS House) will be able to vote for their favourites. We will post information about how to vote when we post the pictures of the pumpkins.
Note: We will provide one battery-powered light for each pumpkin (to use when we take the photos & when we put them on display). If you'd like a special light (e.g. a light in a specific colour or a brighter light), you'll need to provide that yourself (along with the batteries for that light). No candles are allowed.
