House Concert featuring Moira & Claire and Mikhail Laxton
About this Event
Patchwork House Concerts is excited to bring together for the first time Indigenous and Australian born (but Ottawa, Ontario based) singer/songwriter and local sister duo for a memorable evening of songs and stories.
Moira & Claire's lighthearted, indie folk-pop sound resonates with listeners from the Atlantic to the Pacific, capturing both the breezy optimism of the West and the heartfelt warmth of the East.
From a young age and the backseat of the family car, Moira & Claire have been harmonizing, their voices blending with the effortless synchronicity that only siblings can achieve. This lifelong musical partnership infuses their songs with a unique intimacy and authenticity, drawing audiences into stories that feel both personal and universal. Their debut project, “I’m not usually this forward but…”, earned three nominations at the 2023 East Coast Music Awards and two at the 2023 Music Nova Scotia Awards. Their single “Delaney’s Dad,” an anthem for today’s queer youth, was nominated for Single of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. Their sophomore album - “it’s all a mess!” Is due out in summer 2026
Their songwriting is full of subtle sophistication, perfectly unexpected moments, and hard-won lyrical wisdom. The clever simplicity they’re able to draw out of life’s complexities makes for honest, intimate, and relatable songs that have connected with thousands of people globally.
With a sound that’s equal parts funky and melodic - but above all soulful - Mikhail Laxton is an artist whose time has come. After first sharing his musical gifts on the 2021 EP Real and his 2023 eponymous full-length follow-up, the Australian-born, Ottawa-based singer/songwriter has stepped fully into his own with Present Nostalgia. Co-produced by Jim Bryson, the eight-song collection fuses Americana storytelling with R&B smoothness, resulting in an intoxicating, genre-blending style all his own.
Mikhail’s journey has taken him from busking at Brisbane’s farmers’ markets to national TV on The Voice Australia, to starting over in Canada where his soulful performances have won over audiences one show at a time. Known for his warm stage presence and authentic storytelling, he transforms each performance into a communal experience aimed straight at the heart.
Tickets are $30 + fees. Like all of our house concerts, 100 % of the door will go directly to the artists. We provide the stage, chairs and hopefully a room filled with eager listeners. Snacks and soft drinks will be offered; otherwise it is BYOB (Bring your own beverage). Bringing music-loving-friends and visiting family members is strongly encouraged.
